John Cena Would Love To Make A Sequel To Bumblebee
John Cena had a blast making Bumblebee, and director Travis Knight's film is earning praise from many fans as the best Transformers movie to date. So when CinemaBlend's own Dirk Libbey asked Cena if his Jack Burns would return for a sequel, the action star had this to say:
I hope so. I really enjoyed working with Travis, but I love the movie and it looks like it's going to make a lot of money too, so hopefully we'll be able to do it again.
The signs are looking pretty positive for a seventh film in the live-action Transformers film series. Bumblebee is a prequel to Transformers, and director Travis Knight has already revealed he has more ideas for Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld) and Bee, should Bumblebee 2 come to pass.
When asked what he'd like to see his character do in a sequel, John Cena kept it humble:
Oh, I'm not, I'm not selfish in that regard. The one thing I'd like to see is that it be just as good of a story. I think if I get too involved with what I'm doing rather than what the movie is doing, the movie suffers. I think as long as the movie reads as good as Bumblebee then we'll be off to a good start.
Without spoiling anything, his Agent Burns had a bit of a change of heart by the end of Bumblebee, and there's an opportunity to show more sides to the character.
Really, though, Bumblebee 2 might be the perfect opportunity to fulfill John Cena's dream of transforming into a John-a-Tron.
In terms of the response to the movie, Bumblebee was a hit with critics, and currently enjoys a very impressive 93 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It earned an A- CinemaScore from polled moviegoers, which has to make the cast proud. It just opened on December 21, but so far the film has made just shy of $200 million off its reported production budget of $135 million. The opening was on the low end for a Transformers movie, but Bumblebee also opened on fewer screens than the previous five films, as Box Office Mojo figures show.
John Cena is a pretty busy guy. He had a big 2018 at the movies, with Blockers and Bumblebee, and he's pitched himself to take over as Captain America, should Marvel be interested. The previous year, Cena had The Wall, Daddy's Home 2, and the voice of Ferdinand in that animated movie. He still lends his voice to Baron Draxum on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and he's also meant to voice Yoshi the polar bear in Robert Downey Jr.'s 2020 film The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle.
But now we know John Cena is 100% down to make time for Bumblebee 2, if there's a place for him in the story. Sounds like Travis Knight knows what he wants, so we just have to stay tuned and see what happens from here.
