When The Batman May Finally Begin Filming
Lately, some underdogs of the DC Universe are getting their time to shine in their own movies, such as Aquaman and soon Shazam!. However, musings of the return of one Caped Crusader on the big screen has never quite escaped the minds of fans.
Matt Reeves is now helming the next Batman movie as both writer and director, and it looks to be finally coming together. Per a report from The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit, the War for the Planet of the Apes filmmaker has finished up the script for The Batman, and besides some tweaks here and there, the studio is aiming to start shooting in November.
I know that seems like a millennium away Batman fans, but it's progress! Back in September, we heard that Matt Reeves turned in the first draft of the script and Warner Bros. was really digging what he penned for the Dark Knight. Since then, he's likely been working through some rewrites because another report claimed the final script was due by the end of 2018.
Borys Kit's words are is in line with the script timeline we've been following through these past reports, and if Matt Reeves has finished The Batman script, the studio creating a deadline for production certainly makes sense to follow.
Although this hasn't been confirmed by the studio, if production is starting in November, we should expect some casting information for The Batman well before then. This is high in the minds of many because it's still unclear whether Ben Affleck is returning as Batman or if the solo film will go into another direction and introduce the sixth actor to play the icon in a live action feature film in the past 30 years.
When another planned Batman solo film was announced to be in the works, Ben Affleck was set to star, write and direct the movie. When he left directing and writing duties, his fate as the character was also called into question.
Ben Affleck has been in and out of rehab in the last few years, which could make him difficult actor to insure for a Batman film. He also recently signed on to direct a film with his longtime buddy Matt Damon as the star based on the article titled "How an Ex-Cop Rigged McDonald's Monopoly Game and Stole Millions," and is also planning to adapting Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution.
Details about The Batman have been kept heavily under wraps thus far, but Matt Reeves has said that the film won't be an origin film and he wants to focus on the "world's greatest detective" aspect of Batman.
Although it's going to be quite the wait before we see Batman back on screen, there are tons of exciting comic book adaptations coming to theaters this year alone, so check out what they are.
That said, the chances of Lana Condor getting to play Jubilee again don't look too good. While it's not officially confirmed yet, given that 20th Century Fox is soon being absorbed into Disney, which subsequently means the X-Men and Fantastic Four properties can finally be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Dark Phoenix is believed to be the final main X-Men film of the Fox era.
