Chris Hemsworth Put Snickers Bars In His Daughter's Shoes To Sneak Her Onto Disneyland's Tower Of Terror

If you've ever been a small child, emphasis on the "small," at a theme park, or brought one with you, then you likely know the pain that comes with height requirements on attractions. It sucks when you can't go on a ride you want to, and it sucks for the parents of that child too, who want their kids to have a great time. Chris Hemsworth recently revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live that when his daughter was too short to go on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disneyland a couple years ago, he took matters into his own hands, by stuffing her shoes. According to Hemsworth...

I took my daughter on [Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Breakout] a couple of years ago when it previously called the Tower of Terror. And she wasnt tall enough, and she was really upset. And I was like, No, forget this. Come here. So I grabbed a couple Snickers bars and things, and slammed it in the back of her shoe under her heel. So I propped her up, she was like this much short, walked up, was like, What about now? So theyre like, Okay, in you come. Snickers work.

Basically, Chris Hemsworth created make shift high heels for his daughter that pushed up the back of her feet enough to raise his daughter's height to the necessary limit. Clearly, she was really close to the limit, which is 40" if you're keeping score. I'm not sure what to think about those cast members if they had only measured her moments before and found her too short, maybe they decided they didn't want to make Thor mad twice.

Hemsworth appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live along side his Avengers: Endgame co-stars Paul Rudd, Scarlett Johansson, and Robert Downey Jr. They were less than impressed with the actor's tale, pointing out that these height requirements exist for a reason and he shouldn't be commended for subverting the system.

To his credit, Chris Hemsworth understood the reason for the requirements as soon as his daughter actually got on the ride, as it seems the restraint system was not sufficient to hold her in place.

It gets worse. So I was sitting in the chair, and this thing, its I dont know how many hundreds of feet high and whatever. Were at the top and Im looking at her. Shes strapped in, the seat is massive on her. And Im like, We beat the system, honey! And then it drops and shes like [slightly raises himself up and makes weird noise]. I grab on to her, shes screaming the whole way down, like a cat. I was like, Maybe theres a reason that theres a height size. So dont do that. Shes fine, shes well.

The restraints on the Tower of Terror (now Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout) are nothing more than a simple seat belt, but since the ride only moves up and down, little more is needed. I'm not sure why Chris Hemsworth's daughter found herself sliding out of the seat. Perhaps because she was smaller, there was actually space between her lap and the belt, leading to her moving upwards when the ride was pulled down.

As somebody who took longer than normal to reach all of the Disneyland height requirements, I can appreciate the desire to circumvent the rules. Still, one should not condone such things and it's good that Chris Hemsworth now understands the importance of these rules. Of course, when the new Marvel themed land opens up next to Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout, one certainly wonders if Thor might go looking for Snickers bars once again.

Why Pinhead Is Horrors Greatest Icon, According To The New Pinhead

The horror genre is one of those styles of film that naturally lends itself to the creation of icons. From endlessly iconic, knife-wielding bad guys like Michael Myers in Halloween, to fast-talking creeps like A Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Krueger, the world of horror comes chock full of terrifying and iconic personalities. That is something that CinemaBlend touched on in a recent interview with Hellraiser: Judgement's new Pinhead, Paul T. Taylor, and according to the actor, Pinhead is the best horror icon of the bunch because he's far more than just a slasher. Jesus wept, and Taylor explained:

To me, he's least like a slasher. He's not a killing machine. His purpose is to serve a higher God. That changed over the years with some of the lesser-known Hellraiser sequels or lesser-liked Hellraiser sequels. That sort of changed the meaning. Number three, he started becoming more of a slasher. They kind of went the Freddy Krueger route with him and made him the star of the movie, which I personally think was kind of the start of, I don't know, it wasn't my favorite thing in the world to see it... In the first movies, what I would say, to answer your question is, it is his eloquence, and his stillness and the threat is terrifying. All he has to do is stand there, and he's terrifying and that exquisite makeup, that exquisite pain that he's in, it's more twisted.

Paul T. Taylor is the latest actor to step into the Pinhead role (making him the third to take on the mantle since the iconic Doug Bradley stepped down), and he clearly has quite a bit of love for the character. By his estimation, what makes Pinhead work in his best movies is that he operates under a specific ideology and devotes himself to his suffering. Even when he's doing something rooted in pure evil, he's typically doing so because someone opened the puzzle box, and it's his job to deliver the pain they sought out.

Seemingly against the ethos of the character, the "lesser" Hellraiser movies (though it seems that Paul T. Taylor is referring to Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth) eventually tried to move him into Freddy Krueger-esque territory. This involved embracing the goofier immortal slasher tropes that don't quite work anymore, despite the fact that the core of the character lies in his slower and more methodical personality that doesn't rely on racking up a considerable body count or spouting off one-liners. Given Taylor's affinity for the old Pinhead, there's a lot for purists to get excited about with Hellraiser: Judgement's release finally upon us.

The dust has settled in the aftermath of the 2018 Oscars ceremony, and The Shape of Water has handily walked away with its Best Picture award. That said, the memory of the 2017 Oscars remains firmly in memory, particularly when it comes to the La La Land and Moonlight mix-up that dominated the evening. As a result, Moonlight director Barry Jenkins never got to give his planned Oscar speech, but on Sunday at SXSW in Austin, the filmmaker finally got his chance to recite his planned words. As Jenkins said:

['Moonlight' writer, Tarell Alvin McCraney] and I are Chiron. We are that boy, and when you watch 'Moonlight,' you don't assume a boy who grew up how and where we did would grow up and make a piece of art that wins an Academy Award. You certainly don't think he will grow up to win Best Picture. I've said that a lot, and what I had to admit is that I placed those limitations on myself. I denied myself that dream. Not you, not anyone else. Me. And so to anyone watching this, who sees themselves in us, let this be a symbol, a reflection that leads you to love yourself because doing so may be the difference between dreaming at all and somehow, through the Academy's grace, realizing dreams you never allowed yourself to have.

Pretty dramatic, right? Now imagine if Barry Jenkins had the chance to say that speech on a stage in front of a captive audience. Alas, that's now how things panned out, as Best Picture presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were handed the wrong envelope (the one which contained the card for Emma Stone's La La Land Oscar win), and the night took a decidedly bizarre turn from there.

Of course, although Barry Jenkins' remarks at SXSW (via CNN) highlight his disbelief at winning the Best Picture Oscar, he has not slowed down in his filmmaking endeavors. In fact, he is already in the process of working on his next project, If Beale Street Could Talk, which is based upon a 1974 James Baldwin novel of the same name. Now that he has proven that he can win an Oscar, it will be interesting to see how he proceeds as an Academy veteran.

Now, one year later, it looks like The Academy Awards have taken cautious steps to make sure that another mix-up like the one seen in 2017 won't happen again.
